Iridescent abalone shell harvested from the Mexican seas forms the sparkling wings and tail of this bright hummingbird. Fashioned from abalone and alpaca metal (nickel silver) by traditional silverwork artisans.

In southern Mexico, in an area known for its rich silver deposits, artisans uses the silverwork skills passed on through generations to fashion this pin in alpaca and abalone. Abalone shell is harvested from the Mexican seas. Each shell must be broken, split, cut, and polished before it shows the varied blue-green-violet colors that make it so attractive for jewelry settings. The pin is entirely handcrafted.
