Safe Harbors

From ports of call around the world to the safe harbor of your home, these gifts and accents celebrate the docks and wharves — the spaces where the work is done. Inspired by rope and riggings, wood weathered by winds and waves, storied crafts anchor this seaworthy style.

Host a Giving Twice Shopping Night Benefit!

What it is:

We invite area nonprofits to partner with us on a Giving Twice Shopping Night Benefit to raise money for your cause.  Your group selects a night, promotes it, and Ten Thousand Villages in Archbold donates a percentage from the sales to the organization.

  • Your nonprofit can choose any month, excluding December, to host the event.
  • Your nonprofit may choose any three hour block of time any day of the week.  Need us to extend our hours into the evening?  Just ask and we will see what we can do.
  • We will donate 15 percent from sales during your three-hour block once a minimum of $300 is raised.

If interested in planning your shopping night, contact us at 419-445-1926, ext 300 or email us at

About Us

About Ten Thousand Villages in Archbold, OH

Ten Thousand Villages in Archbold, OH, is a fair trade retailer of artisan-crafted home decor, personal accessories and gift items from across the globe. Featuring products from more than 130 artisan groups in some 38 countries, we are part of a network of over 390 retail outlets throughout the United States selling Ten Thousand Villages products.

As one of the world’s oldest and largest fair trade organizations, Ten Thousand Villages has spent more than 60 years cultivating trading relationships in which artisans receive a fair price for their work and consumers have access to distinctive handcrafted items. We seek to establish long-term buying relationships in places where skilled artisans are under- or unemployed, and in which they lack other opportunities for income. A founding member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), Ten Thousand Villages sees fair trade as an alternative approach to conventional international trade.

Elizabeth Baer

I invite you to stop in and see our newly enlarged store full of beautiful and unique handcrafted items.  Feel their textures, or try on a piece of jewelry.  Each item is handcrafted by dedicated artisans from developing countries.  I would love to tell you their stories and how the selling of their crafts has improved their lives and the lives of their families.

Are you interested in knowing more about the artisan groups we support?  Would you like us to set up a off-site sale at your location?  Are you a not-for-profit group that would like to partner with us for a fundraiser?

If you would like to make a difference in your world, please contact me for information about volunteering at your local Ten Thousand Villages. Our clerks, design and display workers are all volunteers.  It is fun, rewarding and very worthwhile.  Artisans from around our world thank you for the difference it makes in their lives. Contact me and I will be happy to work with you.
Contact me by email at or by phone at: 419-445-1926.

Volunteers are an essential part of Ten Thousand Villages – we could not operate without the assistance of our many volunteers!  Their effort, time, and advocacy for Ten Thousand Villages and Fair Trade propels our store to succeed.  Our store is staffed by primarily volunteers, allowing us to keep our overhead prices down, which enables us to purchase more from artisans.  Volunteers act as sales associates within the store: greeting and interacting with customers, elaborating on products, operating the cash register, unpacking shipments, polishing the store, and other general tasks.  Outside of the store volunteers act as advocates for Fair Trade and Ten Thousand Villages and may speak at public engagements, facilitate booths at events, and help with our annual rug event.

If you would like to join our team of volunteers, please call us at 41-445-1926 ext 300 or email us at to start the application process.  We would love for you to find your niche in our store, whether that is working with our Visual Merchandising team, simply interacting with customers or being a Sales Associate (sounds more complicated than it actually is).  We believe that everyone is gifted in different ways and would love to carve out a spot for you in our team of wonderful volunteers.

Time Commitment: We recommend our volunteers to commit to at least eight hours each month (two four hour shifts). Each volunteer manages his/her own shifts and can schedule them however works best.   These hours can also be fulfilled by our activities outside of the store like community outreach events and off-site sales.  This is the recommended time commitment but we do not want this to hold you back from volunteering.  Please contact us if you are interested but are unable to commit to 8 hours a month.
