  • Beautiful bowls

    I ordered 9 of these when they were on sale. Somewhat concerned as they were Christmas presents and I hadn't seen them. Very pleased with them! Beautiful shape, finish and color. Light weight. Just as shown.

  • I've had this for years

    I got this bowl years ago and it still looks lovely in my kitchen. I use it as a fruit bowl. The red color is still vibrant. It is very durable.

Elegant form and rich color combine in this coiled bamboo bowl. Producing coiled bamboo items is a multi-stage process that extends over months. First bamboo is soaked in mud for three to six months to remove insect infestation. After drying, the artisan cuts the stalks into thin, narrow strips and coils them around a wood or bamboo form, working inward to create the desired product. A salad bowl or platter takes about three hours to coil. The product is then soaked in glue for three hours and placed in the sun to dry for four days. During the drying process the bamboo acquires a reddish tint. Next the artisans sand or shave both sides of the piece to remove rough edges. Artisans then apply red cashew lacquer, followed by varnish. After this they wash and sand the product up to seven times, resulting in a perfectly smooth finished product.
