A variety of bright batiked flower images highlight these cards. These batik cards are created on handmade paper made from bark of the sa or mulberry tree. The bark is harvested from tree shoots to ensure future growth, dried naturally, then boiled to soften the fibers. Color is added in a mixing machine, and the pulp is then formed into balls. These balls are placed in a shallow tray with water to create a paper slurry. Workers place a framed screen in the tray, then lift the screen out covered with a thin layer of paper pulp. The screens are placed in the sun to dry. After a quality check, the paper is ready to be made into greeting cards. The mulberry bark paper is acid-free.
