This necklace is handcrafted by artisans of Blue Mango, a workshop that markets its products through MESH, a handicraft organization providing work for people with physical disabilities in India. Blue Mango is a training and income generation program for village women in south India, founded by Tamar DeJong, a longtime resident of India working with women’s development and textile design. In particular, the group reaches out to marginalized women—those affected by AIDS, widows and abandoned wives, women with physical or mental disabilities, and victims of domestic abuse. Blue Mango provides a loving atmosphere for women to work in, and gives them an opportunity to earn a fair income.
