In September, we announced plans to open a store in downtown Boston. This location joins Cambridge and Brookline in the Boston area and marks the fifth addition to our store network in 2011.
We also added fair trade shopping destinations
- on Charlottesville, Virginia’s downtown mall, in April;
- at Church Street Marketplace in Burlington, Vermont, in July;
- on Exchange Street in Portland, Maine, in August; and
- at Garden City in Cranston, Rhode Island, in September.
There are now more than 75 Ten Thousand Villages locations across the U.S., where every purchase of incredible jewelry, unique home décor, and unforgettable gifts creates an opportunities for artisans and their families.
Opening a new store – joining a community, meeting new customers – is an exciting event for any retail organization. But at Ten Thousand Villages, it’s extra special, because creating markets where we can share our artisans products and stories is the heart of our mission. When we open a new store, we create new opportunities for artisans to earn income that will feed and house their families and educate their children.
Our Boston store is situated on the historic Freedom Trail (Washington Street), near Quincy Market at Faneuil Hall (where we hear the clam chowder in a bread bowl is out-of-this-world). It’s a spacious spot, so shoppers will have lots of room to explore shelves filled with treasures crafted by artisans in 35 countries. Plans are underway for a November 12 opening. Stop by the next time you’re in the neighborhood.
