The Minnesota Governor’s Residence in St. Paul is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year by opening the doors to free open house tours. The residence has been decked in holiday décor from seven local St. Paul businesses and Ten Thousand Villages St. Paul was among those invited to decorate a room. Over 2,000 visitors are expected to tour the home over the holidays.
Kathy McGinley, Ten Thousand Villages St. Paul store manager, led the design project for the residence. She said, “We were very flattered and excited about the prospect of designing the décor for the home.” Kathy, pictured right, has been with the St. Paul store for 15 years and led a team of nine volunteers that designed the room, packed the holiday décor items and staged them in the lower foyer of the residence.
In total, about $2,500 worth of Ten Thousand Villages holiday décor is on display at the residence. Of all the design elements in the room, Kathy’s favorite piece is the tree. “It was amazing to see how quickly we used up the ornaments on the seven-foot tree. I was absolutely stunned to see how well the tree filled out.”
Governor Mark Dayton currently lives in the residence and will get to enjoy the holiday décor full-time this season.
