Burkinabe Rhythms HangingPRINT THIS PAGE

SKU# 1801370

The visual rhythms of stylized Burkinabe dancer and musician catch African music rhythms in cloth. Handcrafted cotton wall hanging is bogolan or “mud cloth” in earth tones of black and tan. Top of the textile has a channel to use with a rod for hanging. Mud cloth is traditional cloth from northern Burkina Faso and Mali. Mud cloth is made from coarse cotton thread woven into small strips and then stitched togther. After the cloth is made, artisans dip, paint and dye fabric in a sequence of steps. A thin mixture of aged mud is placed over natural dyes. The aged mud contains minerals that help dyes attach permanently to fabric. After the drying process, artisans remove the mud and reveal the beautiful design.
