Burkinabe Women Wall HangingPRINT THIS PAGE

SKU: 1801250

SKU# 1801250

The bright stylized patterns of West Africa form the clothing of these dancing Burkinabe women. This wall hanging is made from mud cloth. Mud cloth, or bogolan, is the traditional cloth worn by many indigenous groups in northern Burkina Faso and Mali. Mud cloth is made from strips of coarse cotton thread woven into small strips, then stitched together. After the cloth is made, artisans dip, paint and dye the fabric in a sequence of steps. A thin mixture of aged mud is placed over the natural dyes. The aged mud contains minerals that help the dyes permanently attach to the fabric. After drying, artisans remove the mud to reveal the beautiful design.

Wall hangings will vary in color and pattern.
