About Us

About Ten Thousand Villages in Cambridge, MA

Ten Thousand Villages in Cambridge, MA, is a fair trade retailer of artisan-crafted home decor, personal accessories and gift items from across the globe. Featuring products from more than 130 artisan groups in some 38 countries, we are part of a network of over 390 retail outlets throughout the United States selling Ten Thousand Villages products.

As one of the world’s oldest and largest fair trade organizations, Ten Thousand Villages has spent more than 60 years cultivating trading relationships in which artisans receive a fair price for their work and consumers have access to distinctive handcrafted items. We seek to establish long-term buying relationships in places where skilled artisans are under- or unemployed, and in which they lack other opportunities for income. A founding member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), Ten Thousand Villages sees fair trade as an alternative approach to conventional international trade.

Volunteer

We welcome you to join our village of volunteers! As a nonprofit store, volunteers are crucial to our success, helping us to keep our overhead costs lower, which allows us to purchase more from artisans. Apply now to join our fun-filled volunteer positions—greeting and interacting with customers, unpacking and checking orders, assisting with displays and operating the cash register. We welcome volunteers any time of the year.

FREE Mindful Beat Meditation - July 22, 2015

6:45-8pm

In partnership with MindfulBoston teachers and teacher-trainees, we will be hosting a series of Meditation events in the coming months as a service to our community. Rick Landwehr will be leading this meditation - meditating to a simple beat using drums or other percussion instruments. This style of engaging with mindfulness includes meditating upon sound, movement, vibration, and the other people who are drumming with you.

Bring your own drum, or borrow a drum from Ten Thousand Villages stock (depending upon availability). Low pitched drums work best for this meditation. This is not a drum circle, but a way of focusing on the present moment using simple, repetitive rhythm. No drumming experience or technique is required. Space is limited to 15.

10% Discount:
As a bonus, all regular priced meditation related items will be 10% off on the days the sessions will be held. This includes but is not limited to drums, singing bowls, fountains, pillows, wind chimes, candles, and yoga CDs.

Summer Schedule:
Wednesday, May 27
Wednesday, June 17
Wednesday, July 22
Wednesday, August 26

What is planned:
At about 6:45pm we'll set up some seats and have a chat about what the meditation is about. There will be an opportunity before and after the meditation to talk, share experiences and ask questions. The length of the meditation itself will average about 20 minutes long. No previous experience is required.

Reservations and Seating:
Please do not RSVP unless you are committed to coming. Your spot would be valuable to others who want to participate. Space is limited to 15. To reserve your space please RSVP through Ten Thousand Villages Facebook Event or Mindful Boston's MeetUp pages or call the store (617-876-2414). Feel free to leave a message if you're calling outside of regular business hours. There are no "tickets" to reserve or purchase.

If you need a chair, make sure to say 'reserve a chair' in your RSVP comments. Low stools and pillows (artisan crafted and available for purchase) will also be on hand to use although quantities will vary based on in-store availability. You may also feel free to sit on the floor and/or bring a pillow with you.

We're looking forward to seeing both new and familiar faces! For more information about Mindful Boston please visit: mindfulboston.com and meetup.com/mindfulboston
