The Development Assistant position is based at the Ten Thousand Villages home office in Akron, PA.
This opportunity, available through Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), is a new, three-year service worker position based in Port au Prince, Haiti. MCC is a worldwide ministry of Anabaptist churches. Ten Thousand Villages began as a project of MCC in 1962 and while Ten Thousand Villages became an independent nonprofit, charitable organization in 2012, we continue as a partner with MCC.

For 40 years, Comite Artisanal Haitien has worked with hundreds of individual artists and small workshops around Haiti to promote and export their work to buyers around the world. Haitian art and handicrafts include, wooden products, palm baskets, cut metal sculptures and wall hangings, wrought iron pieces, papier mache, indigenous river stone sculptures, vetiver products, paintings and jewelry made from bone and other materials.
In a challenging political and economic environment, with limited natural resources, Haitian artisans have developed sophisticated and creative techniques to support their livelihoods through beautiful art and handmade crafts. MCC Haiti supports livelihood development in Haiti and began collaborating with Ten Thousand Villages in the early 1970’s.
