Java Ixora, named for “soka,” a Javanese flower, is located in Yogyakarta, Central Java. Java Ixora helps small artisan groups market their products. Its artisan groups create traditional ikat fabric, leather, ceramic and bamboo products, as well as furniture and small wooden accessory items.
Novi Kusuma Wardhani, originally a sales staff person at Pekerti (another Indonesian handicraft organization and Ten Thousand Villages supplier), founded Java Ixora. Its initial name of Serat Serumpun Craft was changed to Java Ixora in April 2004.
Ten Thousand Villages purchases ikat textiles, wooden and bamboo items, ornaments and home decor from Java Ixora. Ten Thousand Villages began purchasing items from Java Ixora in 2005.
