Nepal Traditional Crafts Pvt. Ltd.

The offices and workshops of Nepal Traditional Crafts are located in the ancient city of Lalitpur, the City of Fine Arts, in the Kathmandu Valley. Artisans using hand tools create traditional Nepalese crafts. Nepal Traditional Crafts provides jobs for a large network of low–income producer groups and economically underprivileged people in Nepal, and helps keep the traditional crafts of the region alive. Artisans receive fair prices, medical benefits, loans, paid leave, retirement benefits, children’s scholarships and skill development training. Nepal Traditional Crafts is a founding member of the Handicraft Association of Nepal, an organization that works to protect and promote the interests of artisans and revive traditional Nepalese skills and craftsmanship.

Nepal Traditional Crafts was established in 1964 and was the first registered company specializing in production and export of Nepalese handicrafts. With the growth of mass production, traditional Nepali crafts were starting to die out. This changed as Nepal Traditional Crafts opened export markets. As a result of continued market for their handicrafts, artisans have a life of greater dignity, and some have been able to develop their own self-sustaining businesses. Nepal Traditional Crafts artisans produce silver jewelry, figurines and statues, musical instruments, thankas and other paintings, masks and puppets, paper products, pashmina and silk products and handloomed garments.

Ten Thousand Villages purchases silver jewelry with semiprecious stones from Nepal Traditional Crafts. The jewelry is entirely handmade using basic hand tools. Ten Thousand Villages has purchased products from Nepal Traditional Crafts since 1987.
