Ethically Sourced Woven Baskets And Bowls For many centuries, basket weaving has been an invaluable skill for communities around the world. This time-honored tradition is shared with you through our artisan partners. Located in countries like Bangladesh and Uganda, our artisan partners hand weave each basket for fair wages in safe working conditions. At Ten Thousand Villages, we believe you have to put people and planet first. Our mission is to create opportunities for all people to live a life of quality by building economic equity through fair trade—what we call, the maker-to-market movement. When you purchase fair trade baskets from Ten Thousand Villages, you provide the weaver with an opportunity to earn fair wages for their work, free of the exploitation often prevalent in traditional exports. Learn more about how your purchase impacts our global mission. Traditional Basket Styles For Your Home Basket weaving is more than a practical craft, it’s a unique form of art and cultural expression. The crafters who weave these baskets employ traditional skills to create unique styles you won’t see in mass produced products. Among our collection you’ll find intricately braided baskets that evoke natural motifs and themes. These hand braided designs capture the artistry involved in the weaving process. Each woven basket for sale at Ten Thousand Villages carries with it the care and craftsmanship of the artisan who created it and the skill they were passed down through generations of their family. Made From Sustainable Materials Whether you’re new to zero waste living or a long-time advocate, our baskets are ethically sourced and offer an eco-friendly alternative to plastic bins or storage containers. In our collection you’ll find baskets made from sustainable materials like jute, palm leaf, and kaisa grass — all safe materials for the environment that are plentiful, regenerative, and biodegradable. Many of our sustainable baskets incorporate upcycled materials as well. Our sari baskets are handmade in Bangladesh from upcycled sari fabric. This process adds a unique touch of color without producing more waste from dyes or plastics.
