This drum is made of a light wood known locally as settaala, with cowhide drumhead. Before closing the drum a small pebble-sized knot of hide called the heart of the drum is placed inside. If the drum is shaken or carried, you can hear this knot tumbling around inside. Retune by tightening the strings.
