A verdant garden of sunflowers, vines and birds grows on your wall. One of our special Traveler’s Find items, this detailed wall hanging is hand-cut, shaped and painted by the cut metal artisans of Comité Artisanal Haitien.

To create works like this wall hanging, Haitian artisans cut open 55-gallon drums, hammer them flat, and then mark designs on the metal with chalk. Using hammer and chisel, they pound and cut through the metal to make designs. Intricate painting adds to the striking design. Among Haiti’s most original art forms, this type of ironwork began in a small village outside Port-au-Prince. An artistic tradition has grown and now the village is a center for this art, with more than 60 workshops.
