Djembe Gathering DrumPRINT THIS PAGE

SKU: 1800120

SKU# 1800120

Traditional djembe drum has ancient roots in West Africa, and is an integral part of the region’s musical tradition and culture. The djembe is now popular throughout the world. Djembe drums are leather-covered hand drums, shaped like a large goblet, and meant to be played with bare hands. According to the Bamana people in Mali, the name of the djembe comes directly from a saying translated as, “Everyone gather together,” and defines the drum’s purpose. “Dje” is the verb for “gather” in Bamanakan, and “be” translates as “everyone.” This djembe is made with redwood with goat skin hide. Do not display in lighted windows. The black cord handle on the drum can be used for extra tuning string.
