This recycled fabric purse is obtained from traditional skirts worn by women from the communities of Totonicipan, Patzun, Cantol and Chimaltenango, each with its own distinct design. This purse with side pocket is constructed from recycled fabric. This provides the muted colors and soft feel that cannot be duplicated in newly woven fabric.
One side of the purse is graphic patterning, while the other is embroidered flowers.

Ruth & NaomiThe weaving cooperative Ruth and Naomi is located in Chontola, near Chichicastenango. Widowed artisans weave bright lengths of cloth on backstrap looms. Young men, trained as tailors, sew this cloth into finished products such as vests, bags, wallets and briefcases. Read more.
