Center yourself in comfort with this handmade yoga pillow. Made from fabric produced in the south of Vietnam and stuffed with kapok from trees that grow naturally in the villages of Vietnam. Pillows like these are used in Vietnam for sitting on the temple floor during meditation.
The women of Nguyen Thi Xuan’s family work together at home sewing and stuffing these pillows. Artisan partner Mai Vietnamese Handicrafts provides the materials and, through the Mai Sewing Group, provides instructions for piecing together new designs such as this pillow. Home-based work with fair pay enables women to stay at home, care for children and resist the draw of the cities where communities often become fragmented.
