‘Tis the Reason

What’s the reason? There is a person behind every Ten Thousand Villages product, and that person is the reason behind everything we do. In the season of peace and good will, choose a gift that embraces the human element—choose Ten Thousand Villages.

About Us

About Ten Thousand Villages in Lancaster, PA

Ten Thousand Villages in Lancaster, PA, is a fair trade retailer of artisan-crafted home decor, personal accessories and gift items from across the globe. Featuring products from more than 130 artisan groups in some 38 countries, we are part of a network of over 390 retail outlets throughout the United States selling Ten Thousand Villages products.

As one of the world’s oldest and largest fair trade organizations, Ten Thousand Villages has spent more than 60 years cultivating trading relationships in which artisans receive a fair price for their work and consumers have access to distinctive handcrafted items. We seek to establish long-term buying relationships in places where skilled artisans are under- or unemployed, and in which they lack other opportunities for income. A founding member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), Ten Thousand Villages sees fair trade as an alternative approach to conventional international trade.

Volunteer

We welcome you to join our village of volunteers! As a nonprofit store, volunteers are crucial to our success, helping us to keep our overhead costs lower, which allows us to purchase more from artisans. Apply now to join our fun-filled volunteer positions - greeting and interacting with customers, unpacking and checking orders, assisting with displays and more. We welcome volunteers any time of the year.

Let us know you're interested by filling out an application at our store. You can also call or email us--check our sidebar for our number and email address.

During this event, we will donate 15% of our total sales towards a local nonprofit organization: Intentional Apparel

Intentional Apparel exists to provide Thai, Cambodian, & Indian orphans the financial means to attend college through the sale of high quality apparel.

They believe that with a college education, it opens the doors for opportunities for these children that they would not otherwise get without a college education. It puts them ahead of the crowd in their respective countries and helps them provide for themselves and possibly a family in the future. Without a solid education, a child’s life looks grim. It could potentially lead to the child entering governmental and/or sex slavery which would hurt them for a lifetime. With an opportunity for a fine education, these children have the potential to go far. They have the potential to succeed. They have the potential to have a quality life.

Dining for Women’s mission is to empower women and girls living in extreme poverty by funding programs that foster good health, education, and economic self-sufficiency and to cultivate educational dinner circles that inspire individuals to make a positive difference through the power of collective giving. Their vision is to create a new paradigm for giving – collective giving on an immense scale while maintaining the intimacy of small groups with a focus on education and engaged giving. Lancaster County’s chapter meets monthly for potluck gatherings and learn about the most urgent issues affecting women and girls living in extreme poverty worldwide, including illiteracy, health care, sex trafficking, water and food security, education, human rights, economic self-sufficiency, and many other challenges. They then donate what they would have spent going out to a restaurant and our pooled contributions support a different DFW-designated organization every month. When combined, our gifts make more of an impact than they would have individually.

Their members are passionate leaders who believe in giving hope and a voice to women and children living in some of the poorest countries in the world. Dining for Women is changing the world, one dinner at a time.
