‘Tis the Reason

What’s the reason? There is a person behind every Ten Thousand Villages product, and that person is the reason behind everything we do. In the season of peace and good will, choose a gift that embraces the human element—choose Ten Thousand Villages.

COMMUNITY SHOPPING EVENT TO BENEFIT INDEPENDENCE INC.

If you’re looking for a meaningful gift for the holidays or another special occasion, consider shopping at Ten Thousand Villages, 835 Massachusetts, on Sunday, December 14, for a gift that truly keeps on giving. From 2-5pm, Ten Thousand Villages will donate 15% of their sales to Independence Inc.

Independence, Inc. has served as a resource in Lawrence and Northeast Kansas since 1978 through our mission of providing advocacy, services, and education for people with disabilities and our communities. As an Independent Living Center, we work with people with varying disabilities to live in the environments of their choice, and we offer options, resources and advocacy to help people live fulfilling lives. Our vision is to work together in transforming our communities to be the best places in which people with disabilities can live, learn, and work.

Dear Customer,

Fair Trade and Lawrence go together like a carriage and a horse. We love being part of this community of ethical consumers. We try every day to add value and meaning to the community with our Fair Trade, handmade, ecofriendly products and Lawrence has been loving us back.

So much so, that we have decided to expand the sales floor! We want to utilize more of the back of the store for additional product and expand our product selection with products such as musical instruments. We are also going to host “Trunk shows” to showcase other Fair Trade vendors and products.

All of this will take money, and as a non-profit, we are starting a Fund Raising campaign beginning today. We want to raise $12,000 by October 1st, in time for the Fair Trade Month kick-off. The money we collect in donations will go to buying new fixtures, paint, slat wall etc. In our store we have put pictures of what we would like to buy.

You can help us achieve our goal! With a donation of at least $5.00 you can buy a personalized (paper) brick with your name on it and we're going to start covering our walls until we achieve our goal. We will accept any size donation of course and you do not have to have your name on a brick if you want to support Fair Trade in a more discrete way ;-). Those donations are tax deductible.

Donations can be made in store or online @ http://www.gofundme.com/cp3rpg

I hope together we can increase Fair Trade in Lawrence.

Yours truly,

Scott Stutler
Manager Ten Thousand Villages Lawrence

About Us

About Ten Thousand Villages Lawrence

Ten Thousand Villages in Lawrence, KS, is a fair trade retailer of artisan-crafted home decor, personal accessories and gift items from across the globe. Featuring products from more than 130 artisan groups in some 38 countries, we are part of a network of over 390 retail outlets throughout the United States selling Ten Thousand Villages products.

As one of the world’s oldest and largest fair trade organizations, Ten Thousand Villages has spent more than 60 years cultivating trading relationships in which artisans receive a fair price for their work and consumers have access to distinctive handcrafted items. We seek to establish long-term buying relationships in places where skilled artisans are under- or unemployed, and in which they lack other opportunities for income. A founding member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), Ten Thousand Villages sees fair trade as an alternative approach to conventional international trade.
