Located near Mombasa, Kenya’s second largest city, Bombolulu provides employment, housing, medical aid and education for adults who are blind or have physical disabilities—those who would otherwise have little chance of securing employment in the mainstream labor market. Artisans create innovative jewelry and ornaments from wire, beads and recycled metal for both local and export markets. Artisans at Bombolulu often earn twice the basic wage, which serves as a motivating tool for quality work. Bombolulu is one of a number of branches of the Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya Coast Branch, a Kenyan charitable organization. .
