Sands of Time

The desert is an ancient canvas, unchanged by the suns and winds of a million moons. Sculpted stone whispers the wisdom of the ages, earthenware bears skill that transcends generations, marbled patterns mirror swirling sands, creating a collection defined by rugged spirit and refined by artistic legacy.

About Us

About Ten Thousand Villages in Montreat, NC

Ten Thousand Villages in Montreat, N.C., first opened in 1983 as a seasonal Fair Trade store.  Since then, we have expanded our store, our outreach and educational activities, and our scope of operation to a year-round store. Featuring products from more than 130 artisan groups in some 38 countries, we are part of a network of over 390 retail outlets throughout the United States selling Ten Thousand Villages products.

In addition to providing Fair Trade products, Ten Thousand Villages in Montreat works with and supports local non-profit community groups with events and fund-raisers.  For more information, please contact the store at 828-669-1406 or by email:  montreat@tenthousandvillages.com.

Samples of our Fair Trade coffee and tea are available every day in the store, along with world music selections from Putumayo.

Volunteer

We welcome you to join our village of volunteers! As a nonprofit store, volunteers are crucial to our success, helping us to keep our overhead costs lower, which allows us to purchase more from artisans. Apply now to join our fun-filled volunteer positions—greeting and interacting with customers, unpacking and checking orders, assisting with displays and operating the cash register. We welcome volunteers any time of the year.

Let us know you’re interested by filling out an application at our store. You can also contact our store for more information.
