Established in 1969, Bombolulu works with artisans with physical disabilities, teaching them the skills they need to obtain sustainable employment for a stable income.

Bombolulu WorkshopTen Thousand Villages has been working with Bombolulu since 1986, helping them design jewelry and other products for the North American market. This year, Bombolulu introduced the Sunken Treasure Necklace and Earring set, as well as the Modern Art Necklace. Both of these pieces showcase the talent and skill of the artisans who craft them.

Mwana Mutama from Bombolulu Workshops in Mombasa, KenyaMwana Mutama

Mutama is 40 years old, and has faced polio-induced disabilities since the age of 12. She has always been a determined woman, never allowing her physical disabilities get in the way of her life. She has three children, all of whom have been educated. Mutama joined Bombolulu in 1989 and enjoys the feeling of empowerment she receives from her employment, as well as the stability to meet the basic needs of her family.

Mukare is 55 years old and has been affected by polio since age 2. In spite of his struggles, Mukare has seven children, each one educated, and has built a house for his family, supporting their needs with the money he earns making jewelry at Bombolulu Workshops. He joined the workshop in 1985.
