Eco-Friendly Gift Wrapping Ideas

Did you know…

Curbside trash increases by nearly 25% between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day largely due to discarded gift wrapping and other one-time use materials.

It doesn’t have to be this way!

There are plenty of alternatives to wasting paper and filling trash cans during the holiday season. Here are a few gift wrapping ideas:

1. Holly berries, pine cones or evergreen branches can be used as an alternative to plastic adhesive bows. These can be acquired by a simple walk in the park, or a hop in the back yard. These “bows” will replenish themselves and cost you nothing. Plus, it adds a more personal and earthy feeling to your gifts.

2. In place of plastic ribbon, use raffia or hemp twine. Both of these materials are natural, biodegradable, and best of all, inexpensive!

3. Don’t throw away those runaway buttons! Beads or buttons make great accents. String them right on the ends of your raffia or twine to make for a unique and stylish finish.

4. Now what about replacing the paper itself? The Celebration Sari Gift Wrap is an excellent option. With upcycled cotton fairly traded from Hajiganj, Bangladesh, these Sari wraps will become part of the gift.

These fabrics, in vibrant colors & patterns, from the other side of the globe can be kept and used as headbands, table mats or decorative accents anywhere in the house.
