Ten Thousand Villages in Oak Park, IL, is a fair trade retailer of artisan-crafted home decor, personal accessories and gift items from across the globe. Featuring products from more than 130 artisan groups in some 38 countries, we are part of a network of over 390 retail outlets throughout the United States selling Ten Thousand Villages products.
As one of the world’s oldest and largest fair trade organizations, Ten Thousand Villages has spent more than 60 years cultivating trading relationships in which artisans receive a fair price for their work and consumers have access to distinctive handcrafted items. We seek to establish long-term buying relationships in places where skilled artisans are under- or unemployed, and in which they lack other opportunities for income. A founding member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), Ten Thousand Villages sees fair trade as an alternative approach to conventional international trade.

Community Shopping Days at Ten Thousand Villages
Earn dollars for your organization while supporting fair trade and our artisans at Ten Thousand Villages.
We invite you to host a Shopping Day at Ten Thousand Villages for your members, donors and volunteers and receive 15% of the sales from customers who tell us they are shopping for your cause. As a nonprofit organization ourselves, we understand the giving situation as well as how members value a fun, easy way to support your cause.
Since we opened in 2007, we have experienced great success partnering with important organizations including the Food Pantry, Holiday Food & Gift Basket, West Suburban Pads and the Multi Cultural Center of District 97. Donations to organizations averaged about $300, with some receiving as much as $600 with a strong promotion.
Hosting a Shopping Day is easy. You select a weekday that works best for your organization then promote the Shopping Day as your event to your staff, volunteers and board members in your newsletter and meetings. Post it on your website or other community sites. Send emails and reminders and make some phone calls, because the more people who shop, the more money you’ll make. Ten Thousand Villages will publicize your event on our website and on Facebook, as well.
On your designated Shopping Day, supporters must tell us that they are shopping for your organization prior to ringing up the sale. You are welcome to bring in snacks and beverages at a time you think will have the most shoppers. We will donate 15 percent of the sales made to your supporters to your organization.
