Traditional djembe drum has ancient roots in West Africa, and is an integral part of the regions tradition and culture. Djembe drums are leather-covered hand drums, shaped like a large goblet, and meant to be played with bare hands. According to the Bamana people in Mali, the name of the djembe comes directly from a saying translated as, Everyone gather together and defines the drums purpose. Dje is the verb for gather in Bamanakan, and be translates as everyone.
This djembe is made with redwood with goat skin hide. Do not display in lighted windows. The black cord handle on the drum can be used for extra tuning string.
