Ten Thousand Villages in Overland Park, Kansas is proud to be one of the oldest and largest fair trade organizations in the world. The Overland Park store serves the entire Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas Metropolitan area with fairly traded items from over 35 developing countries throughout Africa, Central and South America and Asia. A founding member of IFAT (International Fair Trade Association), we see fair trade as an alternative to conventional international trade.

Not only do we sell fairly traded handicrafts and beautiful home decor from skilled artisans, we also sell fairly traded coffee, tea, and chocolate. We have bean soup mixes and dips and salsas from groups who help women in need. We have multi-cultural music and books that are perfect for classrooms and home use alike.

About Us

About Ten Thousand Villages in Overland Park, KS

Ten Thousand Villages Overland Park is a fair trade retailer. We create opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income by bringing their products and stories to our markets through long-term fair trading relationships. Ten Thousand Villages Overland Park is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation committed to promoting intercultural understanding. We educate volunteers, customers, and the Kansas City metropolitan community about fair trade artisans and farmers, their cultures, and the opportunities and challenges they face. Following years of education and fundraising by a small group of passionate volunteers, Ten Thousand Villages Overland Park opened to the public in June 2000 in Historic Downtown Overland Park, Kansas. Many of those founding volunteers are still working to support our mission, helping make our exceptional store what it is today.

Volunteer

Volunteer at Ten Thousand Villages in Overland Park, KS

Discover a world of difference and possibilities volunteering at Ten Thousand Villages Overland Park! Volunteers are crucial to our success, because committed volunteers share their time and talents with us, we are able to keep overhead extremely low and we are able to purchase more fair trade products from artisans.

We ask that you commit to work at least eight hours per month, that you attend a Fair Trade 101 Orientation and that you have shopped in our store and are enthusiastic about the mission of Ten Thousand Villages.

Our volunteer family has the opportunity to participate in fun and educational activities like Conversational Spanish, International Special Events Dinner Club and the Downtown Overland Park Fall Festival Parade. Sales Associates and Greeters may join the Offsite Sales Team and the Speakers’ Bureau to share a sampling of fair trade products and our mission with the community outside of the store. Learn more about our Volunteer Opportunities.

Contact Karen Greenwood, Assistant Manager at  volunteer.overlandpark@tenthousandvillages.com to register for the next Fair Trade 101 Orientation and apply today to begin your journey volunteering at Ten Thousand Villages Overland Park!

Treat your morning coffee mates. These cinnamon and clove-scented SPICED TRIVETS are crafted by artisans of the UPAVIM cooperative. Sales of their products, made from traditional Guatemalan textiles, provide personal income and fund child care, preschool programs and a community health clinic.

Ready for a fancy Friday out or a comfy Saturday in (just like she is!), the DENIM BLUESY SCARF is hand-woven by the Nepali artisans of Manushi, a name that translates to “energetic woman.” The group works to empower rural women with skills that create income opportunities and self-confidence.

Spoil her (we won’t tell) with luxurious LIP BUTTER made from pure shea and essential oils. Harvested from trees in northern Ghana, shea nuts are processed by hand into rich moisturizing butter by women living in Ghana’s poorest region, providing them vital income to feed, clothe and educate their families.

Artisans have been paid in full. Offer valid on select merchandise at participating stores through 3/8/15 and online until 11:59 p.m. ET on 3/8/15. Check local store for participation. Not valid with other offers or discounts.
