A dove of peace with olive branch hovers over traditional Salvadoran buildings and trees. This asymmetric painted wood cross is made by artisans working with artisan cooperative La Semilla de Dios in Chalatenango, El Salvador. Hand-painted in the La Palma folk art style by women artisans.

The wood used to make this cross has been dried in the sun to prevent future warping. La Semilla de Dios has a team of six carpenters who plane and cut the wood. Nails and wood glue hold the pieces together. Hangers and hooks are added. Skilled artists draw the designs on the products with an ink pen, often drawing from memory and occasionally using stencils. Women usually paint the pieces by hand, a time-consuming process and requires a lot of concentration. They touch up and varnish the pieces when the paint dries.
