Tidal Treasures

With every ebb and flow, the sea bestows upon us precious gifts — ocean jewels nestled in the beach. The shimmering shoreline and its bits of earthy opulence are the inspiration for our newest collection of home accents.

Ten Thousand Villages helps to preserve crafting traditions passed down through generations, connecting customers with other cultures and their artistic heritage and creating beauty in the world.

Outreach Opportunities
Did you know that we do educational events and community outreach? If you are part of a school, church or other organization, contact our store manager about having a special event either at your location or at our store on Walnut Street.  We are happy to work with groups of all sizes; no group is too small.  Email us at

About Us

About Ten Thousand Villages Walnut Street in Philadelphia, PA

Ten Thousand Villages Walnut Street in Philadelphia, PA, is a fair trade retailer of artisan-crafted home decor, personal accessories and gift items from across the globe. Featuring products from more than 130 artisan groups in some 38 countries, we are part of a network of over 390 retail outlets throughout the United States selling Ten Thousand Villages products.

As one of the world’s oldest and largest fair trade organizations, Ten Thousand Villages has spent more than 60 years cultivating trading relationships in which artisans receive a fair price for their work and consumers have access to distinctive handcrafted items. We seek to establish long-term buying relationships in places where skilled artisans are under- or unemployed, and in which they lack other opportunities for income. A founding member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), Ten Thousand Villages sees fair trade as an alternative approach to conventional international trade.

Ten Thousand Villages Philadelphia opened in July of 2001.

We welcome you to join our village of volunteers! As a nonprofit store, volunteers are crucial to our success, helping us to keep our overhead costs lower, which allows us to purchase more from artisans. Apply now to join our fun-filled volunteer positions - greeting and interacting with customers, unpacking and checking orders, assisting with displays and more. We welcome volunteers any time of the year.

Infant Kit Collections - May 1, 2015 - June 21, 2015

May 10 was Mother’s Day. And in honor of that day – and all mothers every day – we will be collecting Infant Care Kits for MCC all throughout the month of May and beyond until Father's Day on June 21.

Like with our collection of Hygiene Kits, most of these kits will be sent to new mothers residing in refugee camps. Not only is it important to ensure young infants are protected and cared for, it’s equally important to ensure women living in volatile circumstances have the basic supplies they need to help them provide stability for their children. You can make your own kit by bringing in the following items:

2 gowns/sleepers (flannel or similar warm, soft material)
2 undershirts/onesies (short or long sleeves)
4 cloth diapers (flat-fold preferred)
1 receiving blanket (lightweight fleece or flannel; minimum 36 in)
4 safety pins (2 in)
1 large bar mild soap (leave in wrapper)
1 pair of socks
1 cap

For more information about these kits and other ways to help out MCC, please visit their website. Or stop by the store to pick up a list of items.
