Description

Forms of flowing trees, in carefully crafted copper. Artisan Jorge Monares cuts copper, then heats and hammers it to create texture. He uses a torch to weld pieces together. Copper handicrafts have a special importance in Chile. Using copper in folk art is a traditional technique. Spanish Jesuits brought welding and forging techniques from Spain to Chile in the 1500s and taught the local people.
