Courtyard Conversations

Within these bright garden walls, calculated arcs and angles give a measure of grace. Color is sown with symmetry and patterns. Greens are curbed to paths and plants bloom on command. Refine your style with these home accents, deliberately designed and carefully crafted.

Dear Friends of Ten Thousand Villages,

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our store in Portland is closing.

Please know that this decision did not come easily, nor was it made lightly. In the end, the decision to close came down to the fact that this is not a viable location for our store.

We have loved getting to know you, and consider you a part of our Villages family. Our mission is to provide opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income by creating a market for their unique handicrafts and sharing their stories with people in our community.

We hope you will continue to support the fair trade mission of our organization by patronizing other Ten Thousand Villages locations, such as Portsmouth, Center City Boston, Brookline, Cambridge or
by visiting tenthousandvillages.com.

We are offering 25% off* all remaining merchandise. Please consider this a token of our appreciation for your support and patronage.

Blessings always,

Megan Brackett
Store Manager

* Offer valid at Ten Thousand Villages in Portland while supplies last. Not valid with other discounts or purchase of gift cards.

About Us

About Ten Thousand Villages in Portland, ME

Ten Thousand Villages in Portland, ME, is a fair trade retailer of artisan-crafted home decor, personal accessories and gift items from across the globe. Featuring products from more than 130 artisan groups in some 38 countries, we are part of a network of over 390 retail outlets throughout the United States selling Ten Thousand Villages products.

As one of the world’s oldest and largest fair trade organizations, Ten Thousand Villages has spent more than 60 years cultivating trading relationships in which artisans receive a fair price for their work and consumers have access to distinctive handcrafted items. We seek to establish long-term buying relationships in places where skilled artisans are under- or unemployed, and in which they lack other opportunities for income. A founding member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), Ten Thousand Villages sees fair trade as an alternative approach to conventional international trade.

Volunteer

We welcome you to join our village of volunteers! As a nonprofit store, volunteers are crucial to our success, helping us to keep our overhead costs lower, which allows us to purchase more from artisans. Apply now to join our fun-filled volunteer positions - greeting and interacting with customers, unpacking and checking orders, assisting with displays and more. We welcome volunteers any time of the year.

Let us know you're interested by filling out an application at our store. You can also call or email us--check our sidebar for our number and email address.
