The chirilla seed works well in the production of jewelry as it can be dyed in a wide range of colors. Seeds must be collected at the perfect moment-- while they are still attached to the plant, but after they have begun to dry. The dark skin of the seed is removed in a tumbler filled with sandy water (which acts as a natural abrasive). Seeds are then drilled and submerged into boiling dye. After two days of drying time, seeds are finally ready to be made into playful jewelry.
