The fabric for this bag was originally used in the traditional skirts worn by women from the community of Santa Maria de Jesus, which is a village in the department of Sacatepequez, by the bank of the Agua Volcano near Antigua Guatemala. This provides the muted colors, and soft feel that cannot be duplicated in newly woven fabric. The decorative portion uses backstrap woven fabric with design motifs taken from the traditional blouses (huipil) found in Chichicastenango.
