  • A beautiful piece...

    ...with a beautiful story. I love this plush, bright hassock and the pop of color it brings to my living room. It looks great. My cat loves sleeping on it too!

    The hassock itself unzips and two cushions are inserted inside. They are quite plush, so it's a little difficult to sit on the hassock. It makes a better foot stool. I think it would be great in a kids' room, too.

This playful hassock has a rag rug feel and handcrafted appeal. The top is patchwork, and the side in the style of a rag rug. A zipper around the base allows for removal of the cover. Pillow inside is in two pieces.

Created from fabric remnants, the hassock is produced by artisans working with APE, a group in Cairo, Egypt. The fabricremnants are purchased from local textile mills and artisans use hand looms to craft the piece. APE is located in the Mokhattam section of the city, which is the traditional home for the city’s informal garbage collection industry. Individuals and families work together collecting refuse from all parts of Cairo, bringing it to their homes, separating it into different product categories, and then selling it to brokers.
