Fringed loose weave cotton scarf features cool stripes of green and blue. Artisans of Aj Quen workshop hand-weave this scarf using a foot loom.

Aj Quen workshop developed in the 1980s in response to the increasing number of women losing their husbands to the violence of Guatemala’s civil war. The women purchased foot looms, and later bought land first for gardens and then for a workshop building. In Latin America, operating the foot loom is traditionally reserved for men. Purchasing from Aj Quen provides the opportunity to support women who are working to break the traditional mold.
