  • The perfect boutonniere!

My finance (at the time) had the wonderful idea to use this product as the boutonnieres for the men in our wedding party. It was perfect! Our colors were green, white, and black. The flowers are more of an off-white, but you really couldn't tell in person and you can't tell at all in the pictures. I get compliments on them all the time. It was a wonderful way to incorporate fair trade and TTV into our big day!

Silky Petals PinPRINT THIS PAGE

SKU: 5408050

SKU# 5408050

Cream silk forms the petals of this rose pin, accented with pale green silk leaves. The pin is made by disabled youth whose parents were victims of Agent Orange during the Vietnam War. There are an estimated 4.8 million such victims in Vietnam today. Passed on to children, the toxic effects leave many without limbs, suffering stunted growth and learning disabilities.

The young adults making these pins are residents of Hold the Future, a shelter established by Mrs. Hien, an Agent Orange victim herself, to provide food, shelter and practical training to help disabled youth integrate into society. Ms. Hien saw how the children were discriminated against, which caused not only them but also their families a great deal of pain. Today some 65 youth work at the center.

From 1962 to 1971, the American military sprayed 77 million liters of chemical defoliants in South Vietnam as part of a program to deny cover for their Vietnamese opponents.
