Located off the southeastern coast of India, Sri Lanka is a tropical island nation that is renowned for tea, its primary export product. Although the economy relies heavily on agriculture, the hilly landscape makes farming an arduous endeavor.
Sri Lanka suffered a great deal in the December 2004 tsunami. In addition, the country has experienced ethnic and religious conflict between the Singhalese majority who are Buddhist, and the Tamil minority who are Hindu. The people are known for metalwork, pottery, and weaving.
