Fun whistle. . . . .
I picked this up for my husband one Christmas. The bird makes realistic bird sounds when filled with water. Children will enjoy this too.
great gift and great value. . . . .
I bought this gift for the bird lovers in my family. We had a lot of fun on Christmas morning filling each with different amounts of water and trying to master the whistling. They are also beautiful pieces to look at.
Bird Whistles - Giving Back. . . . .
Every year I choose a promotional gift to give out to guidance counselors at my annual UK Paducah engineering luncheon. This year I wanted to give something special.
Our engineering students are working on several bio-fuel projects for a village in Cameroon and as recently as last summer traveled to the village to share their knowledge. It is important for engineers to share their talents with under-developed countries and this was a great opportunity to do so.
When it came time to pick my gift this year, I wanted to give out something that showcased this beautiful village and at the same time share the stories that our engineers have from their experiences working with the people of Cameroon. When I found this bird whistle....I knew it would be perfect. We will be tying together the story of the water whistle and the story of our UK West Kentucky students in Cameroon during the luncheon. This whistle will be a special reminder to our guidance counselors of the importance of educating our youth in regards to global opportunities.
I'm thrilled with the product and thrilled that a company like Ten Thousand Villages works so hard to ensure artisans around the world an opportunity to help themselves!
Beautiful sounds - and so much FUN!. . . . .
One year, I decided all of my brothers "needed" one of these for Christmas. They never quite know what treasures they will get from me - all they know it will be something Fair Trade.
Of course, I bought one "for my husband", too. When my son got his own home, he got his own water bird whistle.
Just read this online:
>> Experiment with different levels of water and holding the bird at different angles.
So... now I need to play with my (oh, that is right, "our") bird whistle.....
My brother in Colorado got the biggest kick out of his... I will have to email him the results of my experiments. His little whistle sits next to a beautiful brass tooled box from India (also a "Villages" purchase). Mine sits in all things Africa (many items from Villages) - Maybe my little bird needs to go exploring other countries? (via my artifacts).
