Terra Cotta Blessing Bowl SetPRINT THIS PAGE

SKU: 6601230

SKU# 6601230

At life milestones, friends write blessings on paper-and-ribbon blessing cards. Gather them in this terra cotta bowl, which speaks “blessings” in world languages: Bengali, Nepali, Garo, English, French, Arabic, Central Javanese, Spanish, German and Tamil. Handmade paper box includes bougainvillea leaves and petals interwoven with silk.

Oni Pall is a master potter who has lived in the village of Mrinmoy for his entire life. Mrinmoy has been a potters village for 14 generations—the word mrinmoy means “things made of clay.” Oni learned to work with clay from his grandfather, father and uncle and is now passing the skill down to his own children. This blessing bowl is made from clay collected from Mrinmoy’s river bed, shaped on a wheel by the hands of Oni and his fellow artisans, inscribed while still wet, and fired in one of the wood kilns built anew for each firing. NOTE: Darkened areas found on some Blessing Bowls are not imperfections, but rather result of the pit-fired production process. Factors such as the amount of iron oxide in the clay, as well as the level of oxygen in the kiln can intensify the colors of the final product, adding to its handcrafted beauty.
