Though well-known to ancient cultures, agricultural terraces are still an engineering marvel that provide spectacular visuals. One such picture inspired the collaboration between Ten Thousand Villages designers and a talented weaver in Peru, and the result is this stunning wall hanging. The surreal visual effect of the textile is created by using a complex method of coiled wool weaving practiced for decades by the artisans in Chaclacayo, a hillside community outside Lima, Peru. Makers create each piece by hand, adding the various colors of dyed wool to the loom individually, pulling one over the top of another to create subtle shading for remarkably lifelike pictorial scenes.
