Colored cord decorates this rainstick made from dried cactus. Artisans create this rainstick by stripping away a couple of inches of bark, wringing out the soft center using a steel reinforcing bar and inserting a round eucalyptus plug. They then drive cactus thorns into the cavity to form lattice work for the volcanic pebbles to rain through. Artisans try to get one second of sound for every four inches of rainstick.
