Beautiful poppies, foliage and butterflies in red and pale blue on cream. Screen printed all-occasion card on handmade paper, from artisans of Eastern Screen Printers in Saidpur, Bangladesh. Artisans use jute—the “golden fiber” of Bangladesh—to produce this paper. After soaking and pounding the fiber to make a pulpy mass, artisans add it to water and stir until it is uniformly smooth. Each large sheet of paper is made individually by lifting the pulp in a thin layer on a framed screen. The paper is placed in the sun to dry, after which it is ready for use in products such as this card.
