  • Perfect for my office

I have this on my wall, above my file cabinet which is between 2 bookcases. It's lovely. Most of the decorative items have spirals so it fits right in. I love what it adds to the room.

  • Tree of life wall decor

Wool Tree of Life TapestryPRINT THIS PAGE

SKU# 6102780

To make coiled wool tapestries, Peruvian weavers use wool from sheep of the Andes, washed in a local river, carded and dyed. It is a lengthy, labor-intensive operation. Blending different colors to create specific hues, they roll the wool fibers into long strands, ready to create a tapestry on a wooden loom. Cotton threads form the warp; wool coils form the weft. Though many people are involved in preparing the wool coils, only one artisan weaves each piece. Working from side to side, integrating small lengths of colored coiled wool into each row, the artisan creates the picture with only a drawing or photo as a guide. It is a time-consuming process; each 3’ x 3’ tapestry takes two days to complete. Artisan Amilcar Barzola Asthuhuaman describes the Tree of Life design as having religious and cultural significance, showing how all living things are related.
