Artisan Nyoman Rauh, in the Balian village of Tegalalang, creates this whimsical flexible wood and wire heron from fast-growing albesia wood. The village of Tegalalang, nestled in the beautiful mountains of Bali, and surrounded by reputedly the most famous rice terraces in the world, lies near Ubud, the home of Balinese culture. It is here these flexible wood and wire birds are made from local, fast growing albesia. Metal from Java forms the neck and legs.

If using outdoors, weatherize this heron by coating both wood and metal with a good exterior clear varnish. A hook over its feet, embedded into the earth, will help it to remain upright. For their comfort and well-being, please migrate the birds indoors during winter.

I thought this bird would never come back to Ten Thousand villages and was excited when I saw it. It is extremely tall. The whitewash paint is okay but notoutstanding. However, the carving is excellent, packing was really well done and I am very happy with the purchase....
