A beautifully crafted sterling silver ball on an adjustable sterling silver chain is actually a bell. In many cultures and countries, from India to Mexico, this necklace is worn by pregnant mothers: its long chain meant to rest atop a baby bump. The bell’s soft chime is said to soothe both baby and mother. After baby is born, many mothers shorten the chain so their infant can still be comforted by the familiar sound.
