The Artsy Holiday Batik Card is handcrafted by artisans working with our fair trade partner New SADLE in Nepal and features a batik design on cotton fabric. The cloth is waxed and the brightest color dyed first, with the waxed area resisting the dye. The process is repeated with wax put on the area of the picture where the maker wishes to retain the previous color. The process continues until the last color (the darkest) is applied.
New SADLENew SADLE is a not–for–profit training and employment program for artisans who have had leprosy or polio, who have other disabilities, or who are socially disadvantaged. The organization offers free medical treatment to artisans and provides handicraft skills that can lead to financially sustainable jobs. Read more.
