Celebrate life with the one-of-a-kind Arabesque Lost Wax Statue. This statue is handcrafted using the ancient lost wax method of casting bronze. Originating in the Middle East in the ninth century, lost wax is one of the first known methods of working with molten metal. The artisan sculpts wax, then coats it with clay and allows it to dry. Molten bronze is poured into the mold, melting the wax and allowing liquid bronze to fill the shape. After the metal cools, the artisan breaks the clay, revealing a one-of-a-kind figure.
Atelier de Formation et de Promotion des ArtisansAtelier de Formation et de Promotion des Artisans is comprised of nearly 400 artisans in and around Ouagadougou, the capital city, and several in Bobo Dioulasso, the economic center of Burkina Faso. Most of the artisans work at the Centre National D’Artisanat, the Village Artisanal de Ouagadougou, which was started in 2000 by the Luxembourg government to showcase the work of Burkinabe artisans, and the Maison des Artisans. These three centers double as workshops and exhibition spaces. In addition, a few of the artisans work in their homes.
