Fair Trade, Ethically Sourced Ten Thousands Villages founded the maker-to-market movement, and our mission is simple: put people and planet first. Every product, including each coffee mug in our collection, is sourced from fair trade enterprises. These skilled artisans are paid fair wages in communities that have been excluded from the global economy. In doing so, under-resourced artisans can better provide for their families and communities. Learn more about our mission and how your purchase helps invest in artisans around the world. Beautiful Hand Painted Mug Designs Because every ceramic mug we sell is handmade, the beautiful glaze, from intricate blue motifs to fun animal designs, is hand painted on to every piece. Enjoy artistry you won’t find on mugs on the shelf of big box stores. Our hand painted ceramic mugs offer a unique look and make a perfect addition to your home drinkware. They also make a great gift for any tea or coffee lover! Cultural Inspirations & Traditional Artistry All of our coffee mugs are handcrafted in countries around the world. The artisans who make each mug impart their own unique skillful touch and culture. In Vietnam, artisans in the village of Bat Trang have handcrafted pottery since the 14th century. Today, non profit enterprises like Craft Link work with these makers to sell their goods in the global market. Craft Link also works with makers to help ensure the cultural preservation of their traditional handicrafts. A beautiful example of this is their Toasty Morning Mug. Inspired by the intricate blue on white designs of traditional Vietnamese pottery, each mug is hand-glazed and painted in these same motifs. Embrace cultures around the world every day with handmade coffee mugs from Ten Thousand Villages. Caring For Your Ceramic Mugs We believe in treating handmade products, from baskets to drinkware, with care. So here are a few tips to care for your ceramic mugs. Hand Wash When Possible While most of the mugs in our collection are both dishwasher and microwave safe, hand washing your mugs allows you to apply extra care when cleaning them. Dishwashers vibrate while in use, causing serveware to rattle and occasionally bump if placed too tightly. This can cause chips, cracks, and breaks in some cases. Simply use soap or a baking soda paste with warm water to wash a ceramic mug by hand. Remove Stains With Baking Soda Coffee and tea leave stains, which can be unsightly for white or lightly colored ceramic. To remove stains from your ceramic mugs, mix a small amount of baking soda with water. Use only enough water to create a paste. Apply the paste to the stained areas of the mug and then scrub with a sponge or soft cloth. The abrasive paste will gradually remove the surface stains inside of the mug. Rinse with warm water when finished and repeat as necessary.
