Welcome to our global maker-to-market movement where, together with 20,000 artisans, we ignite social change. We create opportunities for individuals, families, and communities in developing countries to thrive through strong relationships, fair wages, safe working conditions, and sustainable practices.
Iridescent bubbles and swirling colors are locked within the clean lines of these glass earrings. Using a "glass fusion" process, artisans in Chile create these one-of-a-kind jewelry items. First a rectangle of glass is hand-painted with enamel pigments, and another unpainted rectangle is placed on top. These are placed in a kiln and fired to achieve the resulting color and design.
HANDCRAFTED IN CHILE
Founded by mother and daughter María Rosa Beas and Rosa María Tapia in 1987, Beas y Tapia is a small family business committed to practicing the principles of Fair Trade. As an exporting organization working with artisans and clients, Beas y Tapia strives to secure prices that value the work of craftspeople and deliver quality products to customers. Based in Santiago, Chile’s capital city, the organization works with artisans from regions throughout Chile who craft a wide range of products.A member of the World Fair Trade Organization and the Chilean Fair Trade Association, Beas y Tapia works to develop lasting relationships with producers founded on transparency and mutual respect. Through Beas y Tapia, artisans have consistency and stability, allowing them opportunities to find new markets, preserve traditional crafts, train apprentices and provide job opportunities in their communities.Ten Thousand Villages has purchased products from Beas y Tapia since 2017, when Chilean fair trade organization Comparte ceased operations, and we sought another partner to help us continue to support and source from the workshops making existing products.
